To date in the world, there have been 4 Rises and 3 Falls of human civilization. These are periods of time marked not by those living in them at the time, but rough labels applied by later historians and archaeologists. Most of those in modern Litanaea know only the rudest of details about prior ages, and even scholars can only piece together histories from second and third hand accounts. Litanaea does not cover an expanse of territory that was particularly well-used during prior ages (a contributing factor to it being chosen as a refuge for survivors of the Fourth Fall).

A new 'calendar' is presumed to begin with each Rise and when years are recorded formally, they go xRyyyy where x is which Rise it is and yyyy is the year, beginning with 1.

Rough notes and events will be recorded for each Rise and Fall, along with links to vignettes set in those time periods.

First Rise

     - Never got beyond the Late Renaissance Period.

     - Touched were discovered. By 'discovered', we mean 'studied and existence acknowledged'.

     - The longest and slowest rise.

First Fall

     - A swift crash back to the Iron Age when their largest empires fell prey to some larger ravening hordes.

Second Rise

     - Began an Industrial Revolution at their apex.

     - Was more of a Scientific and Mathematical Golden Age than any sort of a mechanical age. Boundaries were pushed back and great strides were made in the area of Theory, especially where it related to the Touched.

Second Fall

     - Not so much of a crash as a herd breaking up, many nations began suffering internal conflicts at the same time. Nearly all of the Second Rise's extant nations collapsed or broke apart into smaller entities that would later re-form into the beginnings of Third Rise nations.

     - By far the shortest of the Falls.

Third Rise

     - The highest of the Rises, attaining post-modern technology (up to and surpassing space flight) through rigorous and applied use of Touched for the good of society.

Third Fall

     - "The bigger they are..." The Fall was not as far in absolute terms, but catastrophic in proportion to how far civilization had come. They were pre-Industrial and up and down for a while, punctuated by some rather severe repression of anything having to do with the prior Rise in general and Touched in specific. A great many records were lost, or the ability to access them was.

     - Refugees from the ragged remains of the Third Rise founded Litanaea.

Fourth Rise

     - Current Litanaea.
